lesson 5 - ghost & psychic pokémon
ghost pokémonGhosts are the rarest of all types with only 27
Pokémon in existence. A
Pokémon with Ghost and Dark dual types is the only type combination to have no weaknesses. Ghost moves are super-effective against Psychic and Ghost types, but are not against Dark, Steel, and Normal types. Normal, Fighting, Poison, and Bug types also have little effect on Ghost
Pokémon, while Ghost and Dark are super-effective.

gastly - haunter - gengar
Gastly is made up entirely of gas and can slip into any place it wants. A strong wind can dwindle away their bodies, so they often huddle together in groups to avoid this from happening. Haunter gains the ability to float through walls, and Gengar can become perfectly hidden in the shadow of any object. They all enjoy pranking people, and Gengar will often pretend to be the shadow of people to confuse them. Haunter and Gengar will both mess with the dreams of the sleeping as well.
shuppet - banette
Shuppets look like a cloth covered ball with the usual Ghost-type abilities. It often roams around cities at night where it feeds upon negative emotions such as grudges, envy, and vengefulness. If someone develops strong feelings of vengeance, Shuppet will appear in a swarm and line up underneath that person's home until the sun rises in the morning. Banette are doll-like Pokémon that are said to live in garbage dumps where they wander about in search of the person that threw them away. They also generate energy for laying strong curses by sticking pins into their own body like a voodoo doll.
litwick - lampent - chandelure
Litwick are small floating candles that pretend to be guides to people and
Pokémon, while really they are sucking out the life energy of them. Occasionally, a Lampent will work alongside a Litwick to lead victims into the Ghost World, but this is rare. Chandelure use their arms to hypnotize their opponents, and the fire from their candle is burning up the victim's spirit and not their own power.
Some of the most notable Ghost-type Trainers are:
psychic pokémon
Psychic
Pokémon do not have many outright strengths, but they also do not have many weaknesses. In the first generation, Psychic types were incredibly powerful as there were no powerful Bug moves, which were its only weakness, and Ghost-type moves had no effect on Psychic types. Generation II fixed this by adding the Dark type and better
Pokémon and moves for all types. The 72
Pokémon of this type are super-effective against Fighting and Poison types, but not very effective against Psychic and Steel types, and having no effect on Dark types. Fighting and Psychic
Pokémon are not very effective against this type, but Bug, Ghost, and Dark types are super-effective against them.
ralts - kirlia - gardevoir/gallade
This family of
Pokémon sense the emotions of others and love happy thoughts and optimism. Ralts are generally timid
Pokémon and will hide if they senses hostility, but it will grow braver with support. Kirlia can use their psychic abilities to distort the space around them to create mirages and nonexistent scenery. They also have the power to see into the future and create a rip in the dimensions. A Kirlia grows more beautiful whenever it receives positive feelings from its Trainer. Gardevoir
Pokémon can be of both genders, although they are often thought to be only female. They can create a small black hole to protect its trainer and will sacrifice their own life for their Trainers. Gallade is the male-only evolution of Kirlia and has two sword-like arms that they can use for attacking. They are masters of courtesy and swordsmanship, and will defend the weak from harm. They often hide in tall trees watching for trouble.
gothita - gothorita - gothitelle
Gothita always stare at Pokémon and Trainers intensely, but only they can see what they observe. They use their ribbonlike antennae to amplify their psychic powers. Gothorita use starlight as the source of their power and can arrange rocks the same way the stars are arranged. They control people and
Pokémon with hypnosis and are even said to steal them away at night. Gothitelle have the ability to foresee the future by using stars and can see the lifespan of Trainers. Space is distorted as an effect of their intense psychic powers which allows stars thousands of light years away to be visible.
